General Building & Visit Q&A
What exactly is The Blue Building Project?
We are a mixed-use community space in downtown Grande Prairie that brings together local businesses, food, drink, art, events, makers, entrepreneurs, and community partners under one roof. What started as a building renovation grew into a project focused on giving people reasons to gather, collaborate, and spend time downtown.
What are the building hours?
Every vendor inside The Blue Building Project is open on Fridays from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Outside of those core hours, individual vendors set their own schedules, but you can generally stop in to grab a coffee or a beer between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM.
Is the building family-friendly and accessible for everyone?
Yes. The Blue Building Project is an all-ages, fully accessible destination designed for the whole community to enjoy, whether you are stopping by with family or meeting up with friends.
Can I bring my dog?
As much as we love our furry friends, pets are not allowed inside the building right now due to Alberta Health Services (AHS) regulations.
But stay tuned! We’re working on expanding our patio, which might bring some very good news for your pups.
Booking Spaces & Events Q&A
What kinds of spaces are available to rent in the building?
We offer several versatile options depending on your event, including The Blue Box (our largest flexible room), the two-level Patio, our commercial kitchen, and the cozy Back Bar. You can view all our rental spaces and their layout capacities on our Bookable Spaces page.
If I book the rooftop patio and it rains, what happens to my event?
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we have you covered. We will seamlessly move your event downstairs into the enclosed, four-season lower level of the patio so your plans don’t get washed out.
Can I bring in outside catering for my private event?
Yes. We highly recommend Comfort & Chaos, as they are a fantastic caterer with a wide range of options who deeply understand our building and layout. However, you are welcome to bring in an outside caterer of your choice. Just note that outside caterers will need to rent our commercial kitchen as part of your event booking package.
How does alcohol service work for private rentals?
In general, all alcohol service in the building is managed through Grain Bin Beer. If you would like to serve specific products not manufactured by Grain Bin at your event, that is absolutely allowed: the coordination and service will just need to flow through the Grain Bin team.
Do your event spaces include tech, audio/visual equipment, and tables/chairs?
Our base room rentals provide you with the empty space, giving you total flexibility. Tables, chairs, and AV equipment are available as convenient add-ons to your booking package. You can request these details when you fill out our Space Request Form.
Can anyone rent the commercial kitchen, and what certifications are required?
To rent the kitchen, users must hold a standard Alberta Food Safety Basics certificate and carry appropriate commercial insurance. Additionally, all first-time renters are required to go through a mandatory orientation to get familiar with the space and equipment before their first booking.

How do businesses become part of The Blue Building Project?

How can I get my art featured in the gallery space?
Art comes in a lot of forms here, and we love showcasing regional talent. To request gallery space, you can find the direct application forms at [*coming soon].
Are the makers and agricultural producers inside the building local?
Yes. At its core, The Blue Building Project is a community of makers. We focus specifically on local creators, independent artisans, and agricultural producers who are building, crafting, and using regional ingredients right here in the Grande Prairie area. Occasionally, we will feature exceptional businesses or artists from outside our immediate region. When we do, we are highly selective, carefully curating only those whose work directly enhances and brings something unique to our local community.

Our Makers & Opportunities page features job openings from across the entire building. This includes roles with The Blue Building Project itself, as well as positions with our independent retail partners, food and beverage vendors, and local makers.
